"Hope and History" - Leather Irish Penal Chaplet
"Hope and History" - Leather Irish Penal Chaplet
"But then once in a lifetime
the longed for tidal wave
of justice can rise up
and hope and history rhyme."
— Seamus Heaney
The Celtic crucifix of this chaplet is cast from vintage oiginal; the ring is cast from an ancient Celtic piece. Both are solid bronze.
The Aves and the Pater bead are solid French brass with quite a nice weight and feel. Although they’re slightly smaller than some other beads we use, we find these very easy for our fingers to distinguish from one another.
The chaplet is knotted on brown Greek leather cord — the finest leather cord on the market today. The connecting ring is heavy gauge bronze.
10-Bead Chaplets of this configuration are known as Irish Penal Chaplets, or "Little Rosaries." They can easily be used to keep count of the prayers of a full five decade rosary, by looping the ring over one thumb and praying one decade, then moving the ring to each finger in turn, praying one decade at each position.
