"Little Shamrock" - Plant-Dyed Maple Wood and Serpentine - Handmade Rosary
The shamrock is one of our most familiar symbols of the Holy Trinity, and for Saint Patrick — thanks to the charming old story that Saint Patrick used this little plant to help illustrate the idea of “three in one.”
The crucifix and the center of this smaller rosary are decorated with shamrocks, and patterned on both sides. Both pieces are solid bronze, cast from vintage originals.
The gracefully curved stone Pater beads are mottled green serpentine.
The Ave beads are our favorite raw maple wood beads. We’ve stained the raw maple using a natural vegetable dye concocted of avocado skins and pits. These Aves are a bit smaller in diameter than some others we use, yet they’re still easy for your fingers to distinguish from one another thanks to the way they’re spaced.
Between the Aves are multicolored matte glass beads— greens, grays, and occasional strong blues and even purple — in different shapes and sizes. These colors are subdued in indoor light, livelier in sunlight. (The third photo shows the colors most clearly.)
All the connecting rings are solid bronze. At each end of the strands are beads of solid brass.
The rosary is strung on extra pliable premium quality Soft Touch jewelers’ cable, composed of 49 strands of steel encased in nylon, with a test strength of 26 pounds; each end is double-crimped for security.
