Mixed Woods, variation i
Wood and Bronze
All-in-One-Loop Rosary

"Expertocrede:  aliquid amplius invenies in silvis quam in libris;  ligna et lapides docebunt te quod a magistris audire non possis."

"You will find something more in woods than in books.  Trees and stones will teach you that which you can never learn from masters."
-- Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Epistle 106

These marvelous Pater beads are made of various types of wood -- in free-form, flattened and elongated ovals -- each unique.  They're made of reclaimed timbers, or of wood fallen to the forest floor.  One of the Paters is a triplet of beads;  and alongside all the Paters are cylindrical beads of wood and beads of solid brass.

The striped Aves are unfinished, natural wood.  Among the Aves are small handmade wood beads, slightly varied in size, in many shades of brown...

The crucifix is solid hand-cast bronze.

Aside:  What a pleasure it is to work with beads so various in shape, pattern, and color as these beads are.  It's impossible to predict, in starting out, how each rosary will finally come together -- which Paters will complement one another, which crucifix will best suit a completed strand of beads.  That's the joy of it:  Going out into the big open unknown, aware that -- whatever you find there this time -- next time it won't be there -- and you'll (eventually) find something else.  Probably we've all experienced this kind of thing.  So, for now, these are our favorite beads -- you'll see a number of rosaries made of these beads -- you'll see their similarities, and you'll see how each is unique.

This rosary is made all-in-one-loop, rather than in the familiar "Y" form.  We don't see lots of all-one-loop rosaries lately, but they were pretty much the norm until just a couple centuries ago.

The connecting rings are all solid bronze.  The rosary is strung on premium quality Soft Flex jewelers' cable, composed of 49 strands of steel encased in nylon, with a test-strength of 29 pounds;  each end is double-crimped for security.
