Saint Brigid's Fire
Bronze, Brass and Greek Leather
Handmade Irish Penal Chaplet

St. Brigid's Fire, chaplet preview, Still Stone and Moss, Prayer Bead Art, preview

This chaplet commemorates the fire Saint Brigid kept alight in the monastery of Kildare, tended over the centuries by the Sisters of St. Brigid, and burning today at Solas Bhríde under the care of the Brigidine nuns.

The cross of this chaplet is embellished with shamrocks.  It's solid bronze, hand-cast from a vintage original.

The Pater bead is vintage Murano millefiore glass, with lively patterns resembling stars or flowers, in the exuberant colors for which Murano glass is so well known.  On each side of the Pater are caps of solid brass.

The Ave beads are smooth white bone.  Throughout the strand are beads of red glass -- antique Venetian white hearts -- for the flame.  Interspersed between the red glass are beads of solid brass.

The chaplet is strung on premium quality Soft Flex jewelers' cable, composed of 49 strands of steel encased in nylon, with a test strength of 26 pounds;  each end is double-crimped for security.  The connecting rings are solid brass and bronze.

Cross: 1.75"
Pater: about .5" wide
Aves: 8mm
Length: 6.5" from the top of the loop to the bottom of the cross
