Wildflowers
Vintage Wood and Carnelian
Handmade Rosary

Wildflowers handmade carnelian rosary, by Still Stone and Moss, Prayer Bead Art, preview

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."  -- Matthew 6:28-29

Inspired by the intense colors of Autumn wildflowers in New England...

The wooden Paters of this rosary are splendid old vintage beads -- hand-carved saucers, wonderfully varied in shape and size.  We're tremendously lucky to have found one tiny handful of them.

The stone Ave beads are carnelian, the color of dark honey.  These are -- unexpectly! -- mingled with intense purple, olive, and deep blue matte glass.   It's difficult to see in this photo just how gorgeous this combination is -- we've tried to catch a better view in the detail photos, below.

Both the crucifix and rosary center have crisp, appealingly linear features;  and both have curves that complement the Paters.  Both pieces are solid bronze, hand-cast from 20th century originals.

The letters INRI at the top of the crucifix stand for the phrase "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" in Latin -- Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum.  Pontius Pilate had these words written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek, and fixed to the cross  above Our Lord's head.  (John 19: 19-20)

On the front of the rosary center is the Sacred Heart surmounted by a cross.  On the reverse are the letters IHS, an ancient monogram of the sacred name of Jesus, derived from the Greek spelling of Our Lord's name.
