Warmth
variation ii
Batik Bone, Ebony
Handmade Rosary

Inspired by the return of the warmth.  For us in northern Vermont, the snow starts melting, water flows everywhere, the surface of the earth softens -- it's "mud season."  Walking gets squishy.

The Kenyan Mud Batik Paters of this rosary are the nicest ones we've ever seen.   The beads are bone, cheerily patterned with crosses, dots, and wavy lines, and are pleasantly varied in size.  They get their name from the dye used to color them:  it's made from an iron-rich mud.  The Paters are set between beads of old-style solid French brass.  (Detail photo, below.)

The Aves are Tiger Ebony, and among these matte glass beads in a variety of subtle colors.

The openwork Coptic cross is hand-cast from a 19th century Ethiopian antique, in solid bronze.  (Please see detail photo, below.)

The rosary is strung on premium quality Soft Flex jewelers' cable, composed of 49 strands of steel encased in nylon, with a test strength of 26 pounds;  each end is double-crimped for security.  The connecting ring is solid bronze.

Cross:  1.87" including ring
Paters:  from about 26mm to 36mm
Aves:  about 8mm
Length:  25.25"
