Irish Shore
Nephrite and Bronze
10-Bead Handmade Chaplet

Irish Shore, handmade 10 bead green stone chaplet, bronze and nephrite. preview

This chaplet is a celebration of Father Michael Meehan's imagination, and the Little Ark of Kilbaha.

1852, Kilbaha, County Clare, Ireland:
To circumvent laws which forbade the celebration of Mass nearly everywhere, Father Meehan built a moveable church -- a horse-drawn, wheeled box that came to be called the "Little Ark."  For six years, Father Meehan and his parishioners celebrated Mass on the one bit of safe ground:  the shore of the sea, between the marks of the high and low tides.  The Little Ark is still in existence, and can be seen at Moneen Church, in Kilbaha.

The ten stone prayer beads of this chaplet are mottled-greens and grays, reminiscent of the colors along the shore in Kilbaha.  These beads are flat, rectangular tablets of nephrite.  They vary pleasantly in size and shape.   Among these are beads of matte glass and solid brass.

The beautifully designed Eucharistic medal depicts a cross, wheat, wine, and a fish;  on the reverse are the alpha and the omega, and the chi rho.  (Detail photos, below.)  The medal is solid bronze, hand-cast from a vintage original.

The chaplet is strung on premium quality Soft Flex jewelers' cable, composed of 49 strands of plied steel encased in nylon, with a test strength of 26 pounds;  each end is double-crimped for security.
